Oedipus Text

is a publication of ideas and criticism that is dedicated to the exploration and the cultivation of the creative mind. We are a group of 20-somethings—though we seek not to discriminate—who wish to offer an outlet for the creative endeavors of our fellows and peers. Our generation has been questioned by many, as noted by Robin Marantz Henig in her NYT Magazine piece “What is it About 20-Somethings,” as to whether or not we are “forestalling the beginning of adult life,” or if we are in fact a lost generation—victims of uncertain and unfortunate times. We here at Oedipus say “Nay, we are not lost! We are instead seeking out a new way!”

We are a blooming and blossoming garden of creative and independent minds reaching out to imbibe the sun's quenching rays (though we may meander to one side or the other on our way up). Our charge is to rediscover what it is to be human again; what it is to be Americans, or Indians, or Bolivians; what it is to be alive! Cross-nationally, our cultures and societies are currently undergoing a process of re-identification and reevaluation. Cultural norms and mores are being questioned and reconsidered—and with them, the expectation to live up to such standards. Our generation is comprised of an outstanding pot-luck of renaissance men and women, revolutionaries, and torch-holders—all catalysts for the changes that will help to build the roads traversed by those who follow us tomorrow. We are a generation with promise and with the capacity to fulfill that promise. With that in mind, we ask you to see our humble endeavor as being one of many wonderful mediums for the passion and creativity of this Demiurgic generation—that out of uncertainty and seeming disorder, we will create something beautiful.

The formal bits:

Insofar as Oedipus Text is a forum for new and previously-published work, we welcome submissions in all their forms. That is to say, there is no specific format; and, indeed, we encourage experimentation with form and content. Oedipus Text is limited only by the content of its submissions and contributions. Not only are all submissions welcomed and appreciated, but they will also all be considered. All original contributions to this site undergo a peer review by the Oedipus Text editorial committee. The review process includes initial review, verification, nomination, and final review by the committee. The original copyright for all content reprinted on this site is maintained by their respective owners and/or publications. If you wish for your article not to be reprinted on this site, please let us know.
